image use policy

The photographs on this site are copyrighted material. Their use as computer desktop backgrounds, screen savers, and ecards is invited -- as long as they are not credited to someone else. To discuss other uses, please contact me.

cameras and tools

Except for the oldest photo in the site, photos appearing after this point were taken with a Canon Powershot G2 digital camera set for macro focus, sometimes with additional magnification lenses. The more recent photos, those closer to start, were taken with a Canon Powershot G5 using the macro setting and, occasionally, additional magnification lenses. Organization, selection, cropping, and minor color adjustment of images were done with iPhoto.

acknowledgments

Many of the photos on this site were taken in the homes and yards of family and friends. Others were taken at my favorite greenhouses -- A Proper Garden in Delaware, Ohio, and Mortenson's Greenhouse in Northern Ohio -- or in flower beds at the Ohio State University -- especially those that are a part of the Chadwick Arboretum.

this site

This site debuted in February 2003 as "Shades of Insanity," was renamed "Flora Photographs" in May 2004, and has continued to evolve since that time. A major redesign, completed in May 2005, took the site from table-based to standards compliant CSS and XHTML. The current incarnation, completed in February 2007, builds on that transformation. The first version is still available if your web browser prefers it.
